looking back at 2007 UFOs

I didn't keep track of exactly how many quilts I made this year, but I did keep track of how many UFOs I finished. Through perseverance and hard work, I was able to cross 17 UFOs off my list. That averages out to almost one and a half per month. I'm thinking that next year, I'll set a goal of 2 UFOs per month. Eventually, I'll get them all done...maybe. :o)
Today, the kids' cousin Memorie is over visiting and playing. She's 8, so she's a big helper. She's showing the grand-toddlers how to play with Little People. She's also showing them how to do a Happy Dance.
I'm going to go now and see about getting the last of the errands ran for 2007.

some of my newest finishes

This week-end I felt very productive. I got a baby quilt finished and boxed up ready to send to my niece in Arizona. Of course, I boxed it before I took pictures, but that's OK, I remembered to take pictures of the tote I made for my sister and some of the 11 hot pads I made. I don't drink coffee, but that one drink with lots of whipped cream on top sure looks yummy! I'm sure that it's really a hot chocolate. :o)

My new "sewing toy"

I got a gift for Christmas and my granddaughter has been waiting ages to help me play with it. Today, we finally got to load my new little flower pins into my gorgeous, bright pin cushion. My grandson did get to help load some pins, too, but he didn't want to get his picture taken today... even if he was enticed with the possibility of wearing the "crown". :o) Thanks, A, for today's fun.

Ah...a chance to relax

Nothing thrilling is planned for tomorrow's dinner, but we have plenty to eat.
The house is clean, dishes done and gifts are wrapped, but hiding...at least the ones that are going to stay here. The rest have been delivered.
So far, the little ones have only got hold of and unwrapped one gift, and fortunately, it wasn't for them. Ben ripped and shredded the wrapping paper while Wren watched. Not bad, considering how it could've gone. After they go to sleep, we'll bring out the wrapped gifts and pile them in the livingroom. I think they'll be surprised and happy. All year we've been teaching them not to rip up paper, but tomorrow, there will be paper shredding galore! What fun!
How blessed we are that we have enough to have something to wrap and even have the paper to wrap it in. :o)

Finally, I quilted

Today, I finally got to quilt. I'm working on a couple of wall-hangings and got 1 finished.
First, I got all the pieces cut out.
Got them all layered together...quilted...and ready to hang. Here is the first finished one. Tomorrow, I will gift it to my "buddy".

We are having a play at school tomorrow and after all the staff gathered what props we could, we still needed a few things. One of the characters is a crow, so I made a bird beak. Of course, I had leftover fabric, so a also made a smaller bird beak.
I also needed another set of bunny ears, and you know that this is not "bunny ears" season, so I had to improvise. A Happy New Year bobble-y headband was nice enough to be converted. Of course, since Nana was making something, both of the kids had to help. Their job was to model the props to see if they would work for the school play. Ain't they so cute?!?

It's that busy time of year

It's been busy around here... the grand-toddlers have both had strep and now are getting a cold. Work is very different, with personnel changes and then there's the usual "get ready for Christmas" hustle and bustle. I was sorely in need of some sewing machine time, so today, I made 4 potholders for my sister, and one for me. Hers are already packaged up and ready to mail, but I did remember to take a picture of mine. It's still technically fall, so for once, I'm on time with my seasonal decor. :o)
Two more days of work and then no school for 2 weeks. Woo Hoo! I am so looking forward to a vacation. That will give me time to get caught up around the home front, I hope.

A quilter doesn't quilt every day

This week my back was bugging me, so I finally took a day off to try and let it rest. Part of that "rest" was going to Toys R Us with my daughter and the 2 grand-toddlers. We bought Dora pj's for Wren, age 2 and a half, and a pair of pants with a motorcycle on them for Ben, age 19 months. We also got another Dora video. After watching the same ones over and over...and over, sometimes the adults just need a little variety. Did some other shopping and at a thrift store, managed to pick up some stuffed animals/dolls: a Dora, Boots and Swiper for a total of $6.00. Of course, you know that they had to help watch the new video. :o)

Starting a blog

Does everybody have a blog? Maybe not, but here's one more person in the world that does. I want to see if I can do this, and what better way to start than to just jump in with both feet? :o)
The only thing quilty that I've done today is look at the fabric that my niece sent for me to make a baby quilt for her first born, due in February. It's camo fabric for the quilt and a very nice plaid flannel for a receiving blanket. It's so soft and snuggly...just right for a baby.
If reading emails about quilting count, then I'm way into quilting today. That's enough for now. Soon, I will have to figure how to add photos.
